A Proactive Approach

Warwick West State School is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) School. We are committed to providing a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment for students and staff, where students have opportunities to engage in high quality learning experiences and acquire values supportive of their lifelong wellbeing. At Warwick West State School, we strive to support students to achieve their best in our academic, social behavioural, cultural and sporting programs, guiding them to fulfilling experiences and preparing them for the future.

Our aim is to create the conditions for each learner to progress towards responsible self-management, whilst learning about how and why people behave the way they do. The use of a proactive, differentiated and explicit teaching approach builds relationships, increases individual skill sets and encourages self-regulation. We also recognise that some students will require focused or intensive teaching to cater for individual circumstances and differences.

SHINE

As a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) School, Warwick West State School has five core values that create the foundation of behaviour and discipline at our school to enhance the teaching and learning. We believe that each of our students can SHINE through their understanding and demonstration of these school values:

S - Security
(I am Safe*)
H - Healthy Relationships
(I am Respectful*)
I - Integrity
(I am Responsible*)
N - Nurturing
(I'm a Friend*)
E - Excellence
(I'm a Learner*)
* Students in the early years often refer to the values with the easier terminology.

Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students

As a PBL School, we explicitly teach the same behavioural focuses, during the same week, in all classes throughout the school. Staff at Warwick West take an educative approach to discipline, that behaviour can be taught and mistakes are opportunities for everyone to learn. We also recognise that all children have the right to learn and all teachers have the right to teach in a physically safe and respectful environment. Our Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students 2017-2020 sets out the school's behaviour policies, routines and procedures.
